I AM SELLING THIS PIECE FROM MY PERSONAL GALLERY TO EXPAND MY COLLECTION IN A DIFFERENT DIRECTION. You are bidding on an extremely rare original 7.92 Polish Mascerzek Anti-Tank Rifle and a single German proofed cartridge for this same weapon. (The weapon and live cartridge will be shipped to the winning bidder in separate boxes.) The serial number on the stock and the receiver match. The number on the barrel is different. However, if you know this weapon's history this would be common. THIS WEAPON IS ALSO MISSING THE WOODEN UPPER TOP HANDGUARD. However, this does not really take away from it's overall display value. During the invasion of Poland the Germans captured large numbers of these Polish designed antitank rifles. These rifles were used extensively in the earlier part of World War 2 by German Army units. It is similar in design to a Mauser Rifle firing a normal cartridge, but is longer and heavier and a muzzle brake has been attached to lessen the recoil. This rifle led to the development of the German rifles known as the Pz B38 and Pz B39. It was also known by its code name of kb Urugwaj (kb Ur) or by the name of its designer, Józef Maroszek. Its caliber was 7.92 mm and it could penetrate 15 mm armor at 300 m at 30 degrees. This rifle was based on the successful construction of the Mauser anti-tank rifle, a standard pre-WorldWar One infantry weapon. The action was modified to sustain higher pressure of the new bullet and the muzzle was extended significantly. The first tests carried out in Brzesc and Pionki showed that the new weapon was capable of perforating a 15 mm steel plate from the distance of 300 meters. Similar results were reached after firing at a deflected steel plate. Initially, the barrel could only sustain up to 30 shots, after which it had to be replaced with a new one. However, this drawback was soon corrected and the final prototype could fire approximately 300 rounds before a change was required. The Polish military accepted the new design on November 25, 1935.
